Phoenix Rebirth Bishoujo Statue – New York Comic-Con 2020 Previews Exclusive
Announcing an all new limited edition Marvel Phoenix Rebirth NYCC Comic Con 2020 Exclusive statue made in the Bishoujo style from Kotobukiya!
The Phoenix Force is an entity which first appeared in Marvel’s Uncanny X-Men #101 in 1976. The Phoenix Force is portrayed as an immortal manifestation of the universal force of life. It is a child of the universe and acts as a nexus for all the psionic energy that has existed, does exist, and will exist. It is one of the most feared and powerful being in the universe. It spent an eternity as a formless mass of energy roaming the cosmos before taking its first host on an alien planet more than a billion years ago.
The Phoenix Force can bond itself to a host if it chooses and does this several time over the course of centuries in the comics. When it is bonded to a host, the force combined with a host together is known simply as “Phoenix.” The most notable host over the comic book story-line is Jean Grey. It took notice of her as a child when it used its power to save her mind and continued to take an interest in her for several years. When she was lost and dying in a space shuttle accident, the Phoenix Force answered her mind’s call for help and bonded with her, transforming Jean Grey into the Phoenix. She was able to control its immense power for some time, but when she believed her lover Cyclops had been killed, her human emotions took over and clouded her judgement and she became Dark Phoenix. As the Phoenix Force was the life force of the universe, the Dark Phoenix was the embodiment of death and destruction. In this form, Phoenix is uncontrollable and at one point devoured a star system and killed billions as a result. The X-Men attempted to save Jean Grey and it appeared they might succeed for a time, but eventually Jean Grey used a Kree weapon to atomize herself and prevent the Dark Phoenix from ever taking control again. After this the Phoenix Force showed a preference for Jean Grey as a host and even resurrected her on several occasions and traveled back in time to take a younger version of her as a host.
This statue features a change of costume from the Dark Phoenix colors and portrays a calmer expression and pose which captures the concept of Phoenix before she is overwhelmed by the incredible power. At the base of the statue is the Phoenix Force rising up and about to engulf Phoenix, but again with much softer colors which give a much warmer feeling than Dark Phoenix. The colors of gold and green instead of red and gold represent the safer and less destructive version of Phoenix, along with a smaller raptor on her chest. The red flowing hair emulates Jean Grey.
The exclusive Phoenix Rebirth Bishoujo statue is made possible by the skilled sculptor Tsubame, who also sculpted the Dark Phoenix Rebirth Bishoujo statue.
